India-Pakistan and Kashmir

Over the past week there has been an increasing amount of tension going on between India and Pakistan. There has been statements from both sides over the issue of Kashmir, in the UN Assembly and from local leaders on both sides as well. I am someone who tries to stay away from the politics of the time because of obvious hypocrisy and lies. But whenever the topic of Kashmir is raised, my ears are raised. The reason is natural instinct. No it isnt Pakistani patriotism, but my Kashmiri blood that compels me. I am an Islamabadi born and raised Pakistani but my roots reside in the soil of Srinagar.

Whenever this issue is raised it is always the same talk, India insisting on not letting go of Kashmir to Pakistan, Pakistan insisting that it is the ‘sheh-rag’ (jugular vein) and Kashmiri leaders citing their sides based on vested interests. I have been coming and going to Kashmir ever since i was a child, and since i am an adult now i can clearly see the shift in thinking of the people of Kashmir. There was a time when they wanted to side with Pakistan, but the growing unrest in our country and the dying economy has made them rethink this slogan. Not only that but the atrocitied committed by Pakistan over Kashmiris is another factor.

They’ll never want to side with India no matter what happens but they dont want to be with Pakistan as well. There is a growing demand of an independent state of Kashmir that doesnt only include Srinagar J & K and AJK state but the original land of Kashmir that included Gilgit Baltistan area as well. Whether its just a dream of a maniac that’ll never see the light of day is something else but nonetheless people of Pakistan need to know that Kashmiris dont want to be with them anymore.

On top of that due to the recent skirmishes and growing tensions many keyboard warriors have taken it a task to insult India and to imply that Kashmir is their rightful land. Nothing disgusts me more than this ! Every year 5th February is celebrated as Solidarity with Kashmir day but what happens on that day? Just a UN resolution is submitted and some walks are arranged. What good will come out of these walks and resolutions if you are not ready to back them up with a strong political stance ? Right now was a golden moment for Pakistan to slap India regarding the flood situation in Kashmir but no one is even aware of it! The Indian media is propagating their army as heroes of Kashmir for rescuing the civilians there, when the ground reality is opposite ! The Indian army only rescued their army men, tourists and hindus. They had lists of every area and every family but they singled out only those people who they cared about. The government and CM of Kashmir is even worse! He halted any relief effort being done by the people themselves as well. At a time like this when mothers have lost their children, thousands of people with businesses have been brought to the streets with nothings, houses, shops, schools everything is destroyed the best friend and companion of Kashmir isnt even aware of it and claims to own a right over it, does it make sense ?

If Pakistan truly wanted it’d have had Kashmir years ago. If that had been done things might’ve been different there. Generations have been lost in this conflict and now when a little normalcy was returning this calamity happened but who cares? No one. Our beloved media is crying for the death of 10 soldiers but no one even mentions one of the 100 deaths that happened in Kashmir. What solidarity I ask you? What compassion I ask you ??

I always say this thing when people here ask me about the condition of Kashmir or why it hasnt been resolved – Kashmir ko India ne bhi khaya hai, Pakistan ne bhi aur khud Kashmirion ne bhe, issiliye Kashmir kabhi azaad nai hoga ! (Kashmir has suffered at the hands of both India and Pakistan and Kashmiris themselves as well, that is why it’ll remains disputed forever)

Of Cartoons and Kids

Barbie is something that is forever associated with little girls. There must be only few kids who’d be unaware of its existence, mostly those who are not exposed to things like television and the internet. Or those who consciously chose to ignore its existence, like me cuz the boys’ stuff looks more fun.

When i was a kid i also grew up under the influence of cartoon, fictional characters. While playing with cousins i was always April from TMNT or The Yellow Ranger from Power Rangers. Growing up we saw cartoons that have helped shaped our personalities and perceptions regarding life. We grew up thinking bad guys are something who should always be fought, good triumphs evil, we should save our planet from pollution, time travel and different other dimensions in the universe exist.

But the cartoons i see my younger cousins watching promote some other ideas in them. Take my youngest 3 year old cousin for example. She is an avid fan of Barbie cartoons and everything to do with barbie. One day i sat down and watched those toons with her and realized how materialistic they were. For example in one episode without glitter the whole world started coming to an end. So no wonder she says things like ‘when mummy will get me a gown, and a tiara and pretty shoes i will become a princess’. I grew up thinking that i am my daddy’s princess no matter what ! But she has this idea that a princess is one who wears a crown and has pretty clothes.

This… is wrong ! And it should be stopped. She sees a certain character taking everything from another and its right to her, why? cuz she seems happy having all those jewels and clothes. So ultimately she thinks that if by force or by crying she gets to ‘possess’  my other cousin’s clothes and hair pins or small things like that it is right ! when actually it is wrong !! but our dear elders just brush it off as ‘childhood mischief’. I’m not against kids behaving as kids but such viles should not be promoted.

There is a reason why Freud stressed on the personality development of a child till he/she is 5yr old. It really shapes how we perceive the world around us. So if kids grow up thinking that taking away from others their rights is okay, having 1000 clothes in your personal closet makes you pretty and everyone adores you that way, then what kind of disastrous society are we headed towards?

The thing about friends is that when we make them its all sunshine and rainbows, we share everything with them, get really close and it seems as if nothing would separate them.

But then differences arise, problems occur and fights happen. And that’s the real test of friendship whether its just for the time being or long-lasting.

If we overcome these hurdle together then the friendship will remain forever.

If one compromises for the sake of another then it is for a certain time.

If none do then it was superficial to begin with.

Either way its best to know before-hand who your true friends are and having good, sincere friends is truly a blessing 🙂

The purest and most sincere friendship is that of childhood as it is filled with innocence. If this friendship continues on in the late life then nothings can be better than this.

Most girls are incapable of sincere friendship. This may seem a bit discriminatory but its an actual fact as girls naturally have feelings of jealousy as they are highly emotional. Also most girsl believe in superficial things and are incapable of seeing deeper meaning of things. This is not true for all girls but majority are this way. Also because girls get emotional too often their friendship suffers because of this

In the end a person comes into this world alone and leaves alone but its nice to know that your absence means something to someone..

Salman Taseer, Mumtaz Qadri and Veena Malik : in retrospect

Over the past few months, the whole of Pakistan has been in uproar over the assassination of Salman Taseer and the shenanigans of Veena Malik.

Now one may wonder how the two are interrelated and as to why am I discussing them in the same post. Well the reason being that in both the cases, one person is being glorified and the other is being downcasted.

Within a few days of Salman Taseer’s death and the news that a certain Mumtaz Qadri killed him due to his views on the blasphemy law, the entire Pakistan divided into two main groups. One started calling Salman Taseer a ‘shaheed’ and started praising him as an upholder of ‘equality’ and ‘freedom of speech’ or as someone who stood up against Zia’s black laws. The other started praising Mumtaz Qadri as a hero who was righteous in killing a ‘Non-believer’ and that Slaman Taseer was a kafir and deserved what he got. So there was a ‘Team Salman’ and a ‘Team Qadri’  and the later one consisted mostly of religious bigots. But sadly most of our supposedly ‘educated’ youngsters were also part of this divide. During this whole debate i didn’t come across a single individual who spoke and ounce of logic. Each was glorifying and defiantly proving one’s ‘hero’ right and defaming the other. What we failed to realize was that in debates like this no one is absolutely right or wrong. Despite his way of living, the death of Salman Taseer was completely wrong and Mumtaz Qadri should be punished for this because it shows our tolerance level as a society that we cannot even bear the opinion of others to this extent that we start killing those who don’t agree with us.  But on the other hand to praise and honor Salman Taseer is again wrong because frankly speaking he never had any idea what he was talking about. If we take a look at his past statements that he gave, majority of them were just ridiculous and made no sense at all. So in a nutshell his death is condemnable but not to be commended. As far as the blasphemy law or the righteous killing of Non-Muslims is concerned, we are no one to judge any persons faith. Islam does not advocates the killing of any human being. If such was the case then the whole of Makkah would have been wiped out after its conquest by  Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W). But no such thing occurred because Islam teaches to spread the faith not through sword but through actions. But none of the maulvis teach this because this then undermines their power over the people as a person driven by passion than mind is easily controlled.

Now in the case of Veena Malik there is a lot of controversy and the recent interview of her with Kamran Shahid has added more fuel to fire. But once again some people are siding with her and calling her accusators as hypocrites and the rest are condemning her and are making allegations against her that she defamed the country through her shameful acts. Again there is a certain grey area that no one sees because in our society we love pointing fingers at others rather than accepting our mistakes as well. Keeping the interview in mind both Veena Malik and the supposed ‘mufti’ who was called are correct. What Veena did in India was absolutely wrong. I am familiar with the programme and the rules and what she did there was her choice and she cannot avert that blame, but she is also right that all this isn’t new to us. These things occur around us all the time and we know it all but like a pigeon we are afraid of accepting this so we shut our eyes and act as if there is no cat. But one day the reality is going to hit us and by then there wouldn’t be anything that we can do to undo it. So its best that we learn from our mistake now until its too late to !

A lot of times people ask themselves or others, ‘what is the meaning of life?’ and many a times the answer is, ‘attaining happiness.’ But I tend to disagree. Happiness is not a prize to be won, it is present, scattered all around us but requires a tiny effort on our part to notice it.

We as human beings are extremely ignorant of the small pieces of joy that is spread all around us in great amounts. The problem is that we only tend to look at our sorrows and problems and complain that we dont have this or that.

If we stop once in a while and notice the joy that is around us, half the diseases in the world would be cures and life would be a perfect bliss, or atleast we would have the sourage and faith to face our problems and sorrows with a smile.

Happiness can be found anywhere, in the smile of a baby, in the cooking of your mum, in the long stories your dad tells you, in the care a friend shows that he/she will always be there for you. So stop now, look around and feel the joy and be thankful for it because it might not be there tomorrow !

nuthin special

If I die, I forgive you, if I recover, we shall see ……

Falling in darkness
falling in depths
falling in eyes of many people met.
everybody knows you
for some reason they don’t understand you
3 or 4 kind words from their mouth
and conversation is over now buzz out.

A lonely soul…An ocean soul…

We live to die…………….

All the darkness of the world cannot put out the light of one small candle.

The day that I die will be the day that I shut my mouth.

We are all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it.

I am ready to meet my maker. Whenether my maker is prepared to meet me is another matter

tears are the words that heart can’t say

sick of crying
and im tired of trying
yes im smiling
but inside im dying

you ask what sadness is??
sadness is the black flower of life
sadness is the reson of happiness
sadness when you wait for someone you know that he will never come
sadness when you screm and the only answer is your echo….

Sad but true..
“You can always forgive the people who hurt you,
but you can never forget what they did..”
